CO$T

1) How do I calculate the cost for my recipes?
I usually calculate my cost by basing it on prices you would normally find in hypermarkets, sundry shops, farmers market or the local pasar malam. The prices here are usually much cheaper than what you can get at high-end supermarkets that are usually located in upmarket areas.

2) How can I manage to buy only what I need?
Its good to find out what the people in your household would usually have during their meals. For instance, I know my husband loves a certain kind of fish, would want the occasional beef, chicken and a selection of seafood. Vegetables and fruits take up 80% of our diet now days. Knowing this helps, cause you then can plan what you need to purchase.

With this in mind, I have spent monthly about MRM300 on fruits and vegetables. Perhaps MRM100 on purchasing beef, chicken and fish mostly. That's not too bad.

3) How do I know that eating in is cheaper than eating-out?
Well, here I’ve prepared the cost for a meal, EAT-OUT vs EAT-IN, to give you an estimation of how much you saved, in time and money. This is an estimation based on a normal nasi campur meal one would have in Kuala Lumpur. Eating-in cost 1/2 the amount of eating-out.

And with this plan that I have kept to for the past 6 months, each month I have managed to save between 40% - 50% of my salary just on eating in. A little bit goes a long way. Enjoy the blog and hope you'll be keeping yourself locked on for new recipes, tips and plans.
